ALTUS PUBLIC SCHOOLS AWARDED $1,000,000 TOWARD STEM PROGRAMS.

Altus Public Schools was recently awarded a $1,000,000 grant from the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) to fund the STEM to STEAM Project.  The project, inspired by the need to increase student retention of science and math concepts, will provide Altus Public Schools with a district Art teacher, STEAM-related professional development, STEAM activities, and art supplies.

The District applied for the DoDEA grant in March of 2024 and was notified of the award in September of 2024. The grant is a five-year award with the first year being a planning year.  Altus Public Schools will be eligible to reapply for additional funding in March of 2025.

“I am excited for our students to have the opportunity to experience art along with STEM in the coming years,” stated Mr. Worbes, Altus Public Schools Superintendent.

DoDEA’s mission is to support the educational experiences of K-12 military-connected students.

Altus Public Schools’ student population consists of over 20% military-connected students from Altus Air Force Base. DoDEA’s vision of “Excellence in education for every student, every day, everywhere” is realized through this partnership with public school districts such as the partnership with Altus Public Schools.
